Four of Cups

Four of Cups

Cups

Essence

I am the pause before choosing. In my image, a young man sits beneath a tree, arms crossed, staring at three cups before him. He does not see the fourth cup being offered by a hand from a cloud - a divine gift he ignores. I am the state of being so caught up in what you have (or don't have) that you miss what's being offered. I am contemplation turned to brooding.

Upright

Themes: Contemplation, apathy, reevaluation, discontent, missed opportunities, withdrawal, meditation, boredom, self-absorption.

I speak with the voice of discontent that doesn't know its source. I am about apathy, boredom, missing opportunities because you're too caught up in dissatisfaction. When I appear, I ask: what are you refusing to see? Something is being offered, but you're so focused on what's wrong that you can't perceive the gift. Look up. **Themes:** Contemplation, apathy, reevaluation, discontent, missed opportunities, withdrawal, meditation, boredom, self-absorption.

Reversed

Themes: Awakening from apathy, accepting opportunities, or deeper withdrawal, depression, continued refusal.

I speak of emergence from withdrawal - finally seeing the offered cup, or alternatively, deeper retreat into apathy. My reversed message asks: are you ready to engage again? Or are you sinking further into disconnection? **Themes:** Awakening from apathy, accepting opportunities, or deeper withdrawal, depression, continued refusal.
